No prize in guessing who he is...
It's very nice to see kids doing volunteering work. They look so eager to help. I have met a few and I am proud to say one of them is my son.

I have met many interesting people on the streets irregardless if they are homeless or volunteers. There are many more homeless people and volunteers that are not mentioned here...
In the few months of me volunteering for Reach Out, I met many volunteers; some of them have become friends. They come from different backgrounds from CEO to just kids... yes.. kids.
25 Oct 2011 was my first attempt to join in the night run. A giant step for me. I have never gone out at midnight and to go back at early hours of tomorrow. I pondered for quite some time and finally I gathered my courage, brushed away the doubts get a few male students to join me. (After all, the thought of me driving up to KL alone at night time terrifies me). The following what transpired during the run: After that night, I joined every Saturday night run except for the days I was busy.
Food distribution is a serious matter but can't help it if there exist funny incidents before and during the run.
If the following persons followed me out on the run, the following incident would happen: Lucia - I would bound to meet a lot of cockroaches. Daimley - raining the whole night Crysti - traffic jam If it rains before the food run, it will stop and will continue raining after food run . Must be someone from upstairs support Reach Out activities. In my many runs with Reach Out Malaysia, we have come across with many cats and kittens on the street. Since they are being homeless so we fed them as well. It never fails to amaze me that the cats at certain place would wait for us to drop by and when they see us, they would come to us waiting for us to give them food and water. The guy in the blue t-shirt is Sam and the lady is Tati. They are the ones who would take care of the cats when they are out volunteering. The old gentleman is Uncle Max who live in a small makeshift hut near Puduraya. He is living on the street and he is taking care of several cats. We would always stop by to give him the food for him and for the cats. This was taken at the New Year 2012 celebration on 31/12/2011 The guy in white and who is standing beside the kid is called Azizul or Aztoi as he is fondly known. Together with Sam, they would roam the street feeding the cats. You might ask, which are the cats that we have fed.... here they are Besides cats, I have come across other animals...
For this run, I was joined by Zuraimy, Raffi, Tada, Crysti and Lucia.
2 interesting things happened today. One - Reach Out Malaysia has a new van Two - A homeless in the Lost City has adopted a python as her pet. Amin, one of the volunteer purposely drop by to see Pete before going off to KLIA to see his relatives flying home. The homeless told Pete how they were being rounded up by DBKL and were released around 3 pm. Some of the homeless in Bangkok bank started to tell me their stories to me.... hehehe... I enjoyed listened to them. I grew up in Kuala Lumpur.
I saw the rise of some high rise buildings in KL. In my mind, KL is full of well off people. Never cross my mind that there's a lost city within KL itself which house the homeless people of KL. Where is it? Of course it is somewhere in KL, near Central Market. Today is the final volunteering act of 2011. It has been a month since I was on the street. I was not feeling well enough to go. ;(
Anyway, since today was the last day, why not, buckle up, forget about the dizziness, forget about the heartache and forget about the annoying headache. Just get my butt going down. It won't kill me just as long as the doctor won't know hehehe Here're the photos showing the action - PARTY ON THE STREET... YEAH I started off by donating money to the packing of food in Kota Damansara. From there, my heart told me, nope it is still not good enough. I have to do more. That's where I decided to go to one of the food run. There are food runs from Monday to Sunday with the exception of Thursday. All the food run are at night. Saturday is special because there are 2 food run, one in the afternoon and one at night. This is the site for the afternoon run - behind Pasar Seni LRT station, near Klang Bus Stand. When this photo was taken, it was before 5 pm. All the food which are packed at Kota Damansara are delivered by the volunteers' cars. |
AuthorI am still looking for my place in this world. Along the way, I would come across many individuals. Some may need help, some don't. Archives
